Flinders Operations Closure Update

Alinta Energy today provided an update to employees and other stakeholders around the timeframe for closure of the Flinders Operations in Port Augusta (Northern & Playford B Power Stations) and Leigh Creek (Leigh Creek Mine). Following the ongoing development of the closure plan, Flinders Operations will not operate beyond March 2017. An earlier closure date will not be before March 2016, and only if circumstances warrant.
Alinta Energy CEO, Jeff Dimery said the company had communicated the updated closure timeframe to employees and key stakeholders. Key members of the Government Taskforce had also attended employee announcements at both Leigh Creek and Port Augusta.
“Our major focus continues to be on assisting our people through this transition period,” Mr Dimery said.
“We are working collaboratively with Government and Unions in developing a package of support services tailored to suit our employees’ needs, in order to provide them the best opportunity to transition to new employment.”
“We continue to work through the many facets of the Flinders closure plan. Through the development of this plan we now have more certainty around Flinders operating future.”
Mr Dimery provided employees with details of the principles of support services that would be made available. Mr Dimery indicated that he was hopeful that discussions with the Government and Unions would be concluded shortly so that the full detail of an integrated and co-ordinated support package could be made available in the near future.
