Bayswater Junior Football Club scores a $20,000 boost

Run in partnership with Channel 7, the Powering Local Clubs competition gave grassroots football clubs across Western Australia the chance to win up to $20,000 to upgrade their team facilities.

After receiving 2,066 votes from supporters and the public, Bayswater Junior Football Club was crowned the winner ahead of fellow finalists Melville Junior Football Club and Carey Park Football, Sporting and Community Club.

The winner was announced during Channel 7's broadcast of the West Coast Eagles and Hawthorn match on Sunday 23 August.

The club plans to use the prize to upgrade its canteen with equipment, including a coffee machine, chip fryer and slushie machine, creating new revenue streams that can be reinvested into the club for years to come. Future plans include coaching technology, signage and promotional materials to attract new players and support volunteer coaches.

"The Bayswater team really stood out," said Chris Campbell of Alinta Energy. "They put in such a massive effort. You could tell that they got the whole community involved, the whole club involved, and that's really what set them apart."

The initiative was designed to celebrate the players, volunteers and communities that keep grassroots football thriving. Throughout the competition, supporters nominated clubs they believed deserved a boost and shared stories about the impact local football has on their communities. Finalists were then featured as part of the campaign before the winner was determined by public vote.

While Bayswater Junior Football Club ultimately took home the prize, the competition highlighted the important role local clubs play across Western Australia, with 23 different clubs represented in the nominations.
