Supporting connection through food and culture

When young people come together to share food and different cultures, the impact can reach far beyond the event itself. In remote communities, access to nutritious food and meaningful experiences can make a powerful difference — not just for today, but for the future.

That's why we provided a $20,000 community grant to Prepare Produce Provide to support Power Up 4 Dust Up. The initiative forms part of Dust Up, an annual three-day festival of sport and culture held in Warrakurna, bringing together 350 students and teachers from eight remote central desert communities.

A key part of Dust Up is ensuring participants are fuelled with healthy, nourishing food throughout the festival. Our grant supports the preparation, cooking and packaging of thousands of meals, helping make sure there's enough food for everyone across the three days. It also creates opportunities for Perth metro students to get involved, taking part in cooking sessions alongside chef Tanya Healy.

Prepare Produce Provide has built a strong legacy of working with Indigenous Australian ingredients, sharing cultural and practical knowledge around bush foods. Through the program, students at both ends — those preparing meals in Perth and those enjoying them in the desert — gain hands-on learning while directly supporting one another, linking the work behind the scenes with the experience on the ground.

Held each year in early September, Dust Up brings together important support, cultural learning and shared experience, creating an event that delivers real value for the communities involved.
