Loy Yang B Power Station

Loy Yang B Power Station is located in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, 160km east of Melbourne. Alinta Energy’s owner, CTFE, acquired the Loy Yang B power station in January 2018.

The ~1,000 megawatt plant is Victoria’s newest and most efficient coal-fired power station, providing about 17 per cent of the State’s energy needs.

The first of the power station’s two units came on line in 1993, with the second unit commencing commercial operation in 1996.

In 1995, Loy Yang B was the world’s first coal-fired power station to gain quality accreditation to ISO 9001 and the first Australian power station to gain environmental accreditation to ISO 14001.

Loy Yang B Power Station recognises its responsibilities and the important role it plays in protecting the environment today and helping to ensure a sustainable future. We have an Environmental Policy. Environmental performance is reviewed alongside safety, financial and engineering performance.

Loy Yang B nurtures a culture within its workforce that empowers employees to carry out their environmental responsibilities effectively. We are committed to generating a reliable source of electricity in a safe, socially and environmentally responsible way.

The station has completed several significant environmental improvement programs and conducted regular environmental audits as part of workplace standards.
