Automatic Best Offer Transfer

From 1 October 2026, we may automatically move eligible Victorian customers to a better energy plan.

Automatic Best Offer Transfer is part of the Victorian Energy Retail Code of Practice (ERCoP) reforms. These new regulations require energy retailers (like Alinta Energy) to review eligible customer plans and, in some circumstances, automatically move customers to a better available offer.

If you're eligible for an Automatic Best Offer Transfer, we'll contact you before any changes are made and explain what the change means for your account. You will also have the opportunity to opt out if you prefer not to switch to the better offer.

You'll continue to receive your energy from Alinta Energy as usual, but you may be moved to a different energy plan that's identified as a better available offer under Victorian regulations.

Why these changes are being made

Victorian energy retailers are required to automatically move eligible customers experiencing payment difficulty or financial hardship to their retailer's cheapest available offer.

Automatic Best Offer Transfer helps these customers access a better available energy offer without needing to regularly compare energy plans themselves or contact their retailer to request a better offer.

Who is eligible for Automatic Best Offer Transfer?

Automatic Best Offer Transfer is intended to help eligible Victorian customers experiencing payment difficulty or financial hardship.

For more information about eligibility requirements, visit the Essential Services Commission website.

How does Automatic Best Offer Transfer work?

If a review of your plan identifies a better available offer under Victorian regulations, we may move you to that plan automatically.

Before this happens, we'll contact you with information about:

  • your current plan.
  • the new plan you're being moved to.
  • when the change will take effect.
  • any changes to your rates, charges or benefits.
  • opting out if you don't want to switch plans.

You'll have 10 business days to review this information and contact us if you have questions or concerns before the change takes effect.
