As part of an Australian Government initiative, the SSO includes up to 3 hours of free electricity usage each day, making use of Australia's abundant solar energy resources generated during daylight hours that would otherwise go unused.
Solar Sharer Offer
The Solar Sharer Offer (SSO) is an electricity plan designed for households that can shift some of their electricity usage to a set daytime period.
What are the free usage periods?
Free electricity usage is available during the following daytime periods in local time:
- 11am to 2pm: New South Wales and South East Queensland
- 12pm to 3pm: South Australia
Is the Solar Sharer offer right for me?
The Solar Sharer Offer suits customers who can shift some of their electricity usage into the free usage period. For example, you could run your washing machine, dishwaher or other applications during the middle of the day to make the most of the offer.
Because every household uses energy differently, the offer may not suit everyone. Customers who can't shift enough of their usage into the designated usage period may pay more overall, which is why the offer is optional for customers.
Is there a limit to the amount of free electricity usage each day?
Yes. A reasonable use cap of 24kWh per day applies during the designated free usage period. Charges may apply for any usage above this limit.
Do I need solar panels to get this offer?
No, the Solar Sharer Offer is available to homes even if they don't have solar panels.
