Solar thermal update

24/07/2013
Alinta Energy advises that its application to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) for funding towards a full feasibility study of solar thermal and hybrid options at its Northern Power Stations and Playford B Power Station at Port Augusta has been unsuccessful.

Given the identified potential for solar energy development at site, Alinta Energy is disappointed by this outcome but acknowledges the significant challenges to full-scale commercialisation.

Alinta Energy would like to thank the many supporters who have assisted Alinta Energy in our work to date including the local community, the Port Augusta Council, Business Port Augusta, and solar generation interest groups.

Alinta Energy is committed to our thermal generation operations at Port Augusta and Leigh Creek, which employ approximately 400 staff and have a long a reliable history of providing energy to South Australians.

Alinta Energy will continue to investigate other opportunities to progress renewable energy investment consistent with our national portfolio, and will revisit potential opportunities at Port Augusta as technologies continue to mature and the policy environment becomes more certain.
