The Reeves Plains Energy Hub is a significant development aimed at enhancing South Australia's energy security and grid stability.
It has two elements: a battery and a gas-fired power station.
The battery will provide electricity storage capacity and will be built in two stages.
The gas-fired power station would be able to power 300 MW of on-demand and fast-start electricity when it's needed most.
As Australia transitions to net zero, the energy hub will provide a mix of energy solutions and will help provide reliable and stable supply into the grid.
Ongoing environmental, technical, and feasibility studies.
Begins in early 2026, involving earthworks, equipment installation, and landscaping.
Stage 1 operational by 2028 with a 20-year lifespan.
Project elements
Each stage will include approximately 194 battery modules and 89 inverters, electrical connections, substation, water storage, office and control room, vegetated site screening, as well as fencing and lighting.
We've secured capacity investment for Stage 1 of the Reeves Plains Energy Hub Battery Project. This includes plans to invest $88 million locally during development and construction — including $2.2 million for local steel — as well as $18 million during operations.
We'll actively engage with you and your community to gather feedback and ensure your voice is heard. By collaborating closely with you and other community members, we aim to deliver tangible benefits that address the region's specific needs.
We're developing a benefit sharing fund for each project that's part of the Reeves Plains Energy Hub in consultation with your community. This program will be designed to consider benefits for neighbours, local skills and training providers, and the broader community across the project's lifetime.
