Remove electricity supply

Supply Abolishment is the permanent removal of any electricity service lines or cables and all associated meters to a property. This commonly occurs when a building is being demolished.

The Supply Abolishment process differs from state to state.

NSW

The process to arrange for an electricity abolishment in New South Wales depends on your type of meter.

If you have a basic meter:

  1. Contact an accredited electrician who will arrange to remove your electricity supply and meter.

If you have a smart meter:

  1. Contact an accredited electrician to arrange to remove your electricity supply.
  2. Contact our dedicated team on 1300 669 950 to arrange for the meter to be removed. We're available Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm (AEST).
  3. Once the details are provided, we'll get in touch with the meter provider.

QLD and SA

Contact our dedicated team on 1300 669 950 to arrange for the supply and meter to be removed. We're available Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm local QLD time (AEST) or Monday Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm local SA time (ACST).

VIC

The process to arrange for an electricity abolishment in Victoria depends on your electricity distributor.

If you're unsure who your electricity distributor is, visit the Australian Energy Regulator website to find out.

If the distributor is CitiPower, Powercor, United Energy and AusNet Services:

  1. Raise a request in the distributor's portal.
  1. Once we've received your application, we'll get in touch with the distributor.

If the distributor is Jemena:

  1. The electrician or customer needs to download and complete the VESI Abolishment form and send it to electricityconnections@alintaenergy.com.au
  2. Once we've received your application, we'll get in touch with the distributor.
