So, you’ve just made the best decision of your life – to move south of the river in Perth!
You know that it’s got everything going for it – amazing rural escapes, oodles of character and of course, you get that all-important jump start to your long weekend road trips to Margaret River!
So let’s take a look at what you can expect from your new life south of the river.
North of the river might have Instagram-worthy beaches, but here in the south we’ve got amazing parks, nature reserves and national and regional parklands galore.
From popular spots like Point Walter Reserve and Kent St Weir, ideal for a paddle in the river or a walk with the dog, to the native Bibra Lake Reserve, breathtaking Araluen Botanic Park and scenic Serpentine Falls, there’s no shortage of days out in nature when you live south of the river.
Best of all, people living up north can rarely be bothered to come here, so we’ve got it all to ourselves!
For something a bit out of ordinary, check out the Harry Waring Marsupial Reserve. It’s a feral-proof reserve of around 200 hectares, full of local wildlife including woylies, sugar possums, echindnas, kangaroos and Carnaby’s black cockatoos.
You can register to become a conservation volunteer there too – find out more here.
Love hitting the shops on the weekend? South of the river has some fantastic shopping areas, not the least of which are Westfield Carousel and Garden City.
Prefer a more eclectic vibe? Head to Fremantle where you’ll find a real Aladdin’s cave of quirky stores and browse through the always popular Freo Markets.
If there’s one thing the south does well, it’s fun!
We’ve got the best of the best when it comes to entertainment in Perth – from Cockburn Ice Arena and Adventure World, to the beautiful Penguin Island and family favourite Perth Zoo.
We’ve also got the best horse beach in Perth – Kwinana Horse Beach – so if you’ve got a horse, south is where you want to be!
Living south of the river means you’re also closer to so many more places.
For one – the airport! You can get to Perth airport in no time and start your holidays sooner.
We’re also closer to the picturesque Perth Hills, historical Fremantle and it only takes us 25 minutes to get to Rottnest from Freo (from Hillarys it’s almost twice as long!).
Bet you can’t wait to move south now!
