Sustainability

We've got a great track record of making energy more sustainable, and an ambitious plan to do even more.

We’ve consistently embraced innovation to drive sustainability, achieving milestones such as delivering Australia’s first grid‑forming battery, constructing the Yandin Wind Farm — one of Western Australia’s largest and most efficient — and developing one of the nation’s biggest remote solar projects.

Looking forward, our pipeline includes almost $9 billion in renewable energy and storage initiatives, spanning offshore wind developments and pumped hydro projects.

On this page, you’ll find an overview of our sustainability commitments, organised under Planet and People to highlight our environmental and social impact, and Prosperity, which reflects our financial resilience and long‑term support for customers and stakeholders.

Planet

We are committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050, supported by a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects.

Our pathway to net zero includes:

  • Investing in innovative clean energy technologies
  • Setting and monitoring interim emission reduction targets
  • Supporting customers in achieving their own climate goals
  • Maintaining our commitment to no new coal assets

To empower our customers’ climate ambitions, we offer GreenPower-accredited products as well as behind-the-meter solar PV and battery storage solutions tailored for large business customers.

FY25 performance highlights:

Greenhouse gas emissions

  • We met our interim net Scope 1 emissions intensity target (0.331 tCO2-e/MWh compared to target <0.344)
  • Scope 1 emissions down 13% from FY24; location-based Scope 2 emissions down 18%
  • LGCs were used to reduce market-based Scope 2 emissions to zero
  • We completed a full Scope 3 inventory for the first time
  • We piloted new programs to assist our customers to decarbonise

Clean energy investment

  • We did not meet our FY25 renewable energy and storage target of 1,500 MW due to delays with the Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro project. However, we are 78% of the way towards this target, increasing our capacity by another 250 MW with the final investment decision of the Reeves Plains Battery project
