Being Honest
About where Australia’s
energy comes from.
Alinta Energy has today announced that it is developing a new gas power station in Cataby, Western Australia.
The proposed power plant will generate up to 400 MW of electricity and respond within minutes to changes in demand, helping stabilise the grid when renewable output is low.
“The proposed power station will play a critical role in backing up renewables and maintaining grid stability. It will bridge gaps in renewables production, ensuring a reliable electricity supply for homes and businesses,” said Andres Maasing, Chief Development Officer at Alinta Energy.
The power station will be located in an industrial area near Mimegarra Road in the Shire of Dandaragan, close to existing gas supply and transmission infrastructure.
“Being in an industrial area with access to established connections makes this proposed site an ideal location,” said Mr Maasing.
“We’re currently undertaking a range of environmental studies to understand and manage potential impacts. We’ll also work closely with landowners, neighbours, key agencies and the community throughout the project,” added Mr Maasing.
Subject to approvals, the Cataby Power Station is targeted to begin operations in late 2028.
