For John, farming in Dandaragan, Western Australia, has always been about adapting. A third-generation farmer, his land produces wheat, barley and canola for decades. Today, it’s also home to wind turbines which are part of Yandin Wind Farm.

“When I was first approached, I was very cautious,” John recalls. “It probably took several years to recognise that it would be good for the farm.” Now, those turbines provide steady income which has been great for the farm. Even the sheep have embraced the change as they lounge in the shade of the towers, unfazed by the blades.

Just 50 kilometres from the coast, Dandaragan is one of the windiest places in the world, which is an ideal location for a wind farm. For John, the verdict is simple: “If someone wanted wind turbines on their property, I’d say go for it!”
