Alinta Energy has committed to building its Reeves Plains Energy Hub Battery and appointed GenusPlus Group as Principal Contractor.

“We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Genus, who are responsible for constructing and commissioning the first stage of the battery. This means we’re not just planning energy storage anymore – we’re building it,” said Andres Maasing, Alinta Energy’s Chief Development Officer.

“Early works are underway, procurement is well advanced, and the site is being prepared for the build. We’re also talking to neighbours and the community about what construction will mean for them.”

The battery is designed to store renewable energy and release it when demand peaks – helping keep South Australia’s grid strong and reliable.

Stage one of the battery will be able to power the equivalent of around 300,000 South Australian households for up to four hours.

The site will include 194 battery modules, supplied by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a global leader in battery technology. It will also feature 89 inverters provided by Power Electronics, along with supporting infrastructure and vegetation screening.

“The project will be built to the highest safety and engineering standards – ensuring long-term performance and community confidence. It will also create local jobs during construction and open opportunities for local suppliers and contractors to get involved,” said Mr Maasing.

“Together with Genus, we’ve set local content targets that reflect our strong commitment to supporting regional jobs and delivering benefits to the community.”

Construction is set to begin in early 2026 and stage 1 is expected to be operational by 2028.

Alinta Energy is working with the local community, Council and others to shape a benefit sharing program that reflects real local needs.

“From day one, this project will deliver value through dedicated funding and support for initiatives that make a difference for the local community,” Mr Maasing said.

As construction activity ramps up, the team will continue to provide updates, further opportunities to engage, and a continued commitment to listen and respond.
