Your moving day checklist

Check your main switch

At your new home, make sure the main switch is set to 'off'. Leaving it on can delay reconnection.

Keep your meter clear

Make sure we can access your electricity meter. Locked gates, hazards or protective pets can cause delays.

Complete any required safety checks

Some states require safety checks when you sign up online. Make sure these are done before moving day.

Disconnect your old home
  • With Alinta Energy? Tell us your move-out date and we'll disconnect for you.
  • With another provider? Contact them to arrange your disconnection.

Usually only one business day's notice* if there's clear, safe meter access.

No worries, just call us on 13 37 02. We're available Monday to Friday 8am-6pm (AEST) and 8am-12pm (AEST) on Saturdays.

  • Your new address.
  • The date you are moving in or would like power connected.
  • Personal details such as full name, DOB, contact details and ID details (drivers licence, passport or Medicare).

In most cases no. However, if the distributor requires a person over the age of 18 to be there, we will let you know.

The distributor (a separate company to Alinta Energy) may charge a move-in or move-out fee. These charges will appear on your energy bill. To see applicable fees, click here.

If you're an existing Alinta Energy customer, please call us to arrange the move out. If you're with another provider, you'll need to contact them to close the account.

Your main switch is usually in your fuse box or meter box. Depending on your home, it might be:

  • on an outside wall
  • in your garage
  • in your hallway
  • tucked away in a kitchen cupboard
