First batteries arrive at Reeves Plains Battery project

Construction of the 250MW, four-hour Reeves Plains Battery project has reached another major milestone, with the first 48 of 194 battery units arriving on site over the past week. 

The milestone marks the transition into the next phase of construction, as work continues to bring one of South Australia's largest battery energy storage projects closer to operation. 

Kevin Arnold, Executive General Manager at GenusPlus Group, said the arrival of the equipment reflected months of planning and coordination across the project team. 

“Seeing the first battery units and inverters arrive on site is an exciting moment for everyone involved in the project. It's a clear sign of the progress being made and the momentum building across the site." 

“Our teams are working closely together to safely and efficiently install the equipment and keep this important project moving forward for South Australia," said Mr Arnold. 

Over the coming months, a total of 194 battery units and 89 inverters will be delivered to the site. The battery units, manufactured by CATL, and the inverters, supplied by Power Electronics, are each approximately the size of a standard 20-foot shipping container.

Ken Woolley, Executive Director Generation and Development at Alinta Energy, said the milestone was an important step towards strengthening South Australia's energy system. 

“The arrival of the first battery units and inverters is a significant moment for the project and brings us one step closer to delivering a 250MW battery with up to four hours of storage for South Australia." 

“The sheer scale of the project is impressive. Once installed, the battery and inverter units will span an area that's three times the size of the Adelaide Oval. 

"It's great to see construction continuing to progress, and we'd like to thank our delivery partners, suppliers and team members for their contribution in reaching this milestone. We're also looking forward to opening the project's Community Fund in October, creating new opportunities for local groups and organisations to access support and deliver initiatives that benefit the local community," said Mr Woolley.
